The Artists

A Monologue by Eden Redmond, Class of 2010

Love loves to love love. An unknown author penned such a well known truth.

People write extensively about love. About flaws and challenges, about the emotional and physical feelings. Love is written passionately and profusely, as is appropriate. But love is much more than these butterflies in the bellies of young girls.

As Andrew Largeman in the film Garden State once said: "I had this runny nose and my mom offered me her sleeve, and even though I was little, I remember thinking; "Wow... this is love.'"

Love is the vital source for everything. Everything that has ever succeeded has flourished from passion. Every vocation ever pursued has been spawned by perseverance and devotion.

And the doctors, the teachers, the shrinks, babysitters, handy men, consultants, and clerks must hold kindness in their hearts to do well.

But it is the artists who harvest the sewn seeds of love.

But the artists too, they struggle! Paintings take years, photos are redeveloped over and over, the dancers must endure pain and the actors read their lines thousands of times. All of these efforts are made trying to capture that whimsical quality which is brought to life: by love.

With these words, Artists, I hope to give you merit. As I've said... the Artists battle for art. You slave at the line between passion and obsession, you fight that monster named frustration and you walk the wire between perfection and not.

But please... pleas continue Artists. For it is me, the listener. I love the art, I love the sound, I love the movement.

Love loves to love love.

A Message from Our Director

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the Christian Brothers High School Visual and Performing Arts Website! On behalf of our VPA faculty and students, I hope you find the site entertaining, informational, and most of all... inspiring.

The goal of our site is to give you an opportunity to look into the window of our fabulous Christian Brothers VPA program and catch a glimpse of the wonders that are created by our students each and every day.

This site provides information regarding past events, current projects, and future opportunities to experience the Visual and Performing Arts and Christian Brothers Hight School first hand. It also contains information on our summer camps, Friends of the Arts (FOTA) parent support organizations, as well as biographic information on our highly qualified and passionate teaching staff. We consider our website to be organic in nature.

It is always evolving and growing. Our hope is that you visit often and see the new things happening each week here at CB.

At Christian Brothers High School we truly serve the Renaissance student. We recognize that to be a significant contributor to society it is essential that you experience many different things in high school. This is why you see band students running with their instruments after school to go to track practice. This is why you see football players wearing their jerseys on game day... in their ceramics class. This is why you find the varsity tennis player performing her original composition at on of our Open Mic nights. The arts are embedded in life at Christian Brothers, and we hope that this site allows you to share that experience with us.

Thanks for visiting, and I hope to see you at a future CB VPA event,

Ron Slabbinck
Director of Visual and Performing Arts
